Project Loom, lightweight threads for the JVM

Building scalable Java applications using Threads can be quite a challenge. Java Threads are also known for using a lot of OS-resources especially comparing them with lightweight alternative like Fibers or Kotlin coroutines (off which we are a huge fan here at Sourcelabs).

Project Loom is the promising lightweight JVM alternative for Java Threads. Recently a getting started guide was published on the project Loom website showing how (easy it is) to get started with lightweight (virtual) threads in Java. Bear in mind that this is still an early access program, but it gives a nice glimpse of what the future might bring.

Want to try it out yourself? Make sure to check out this getting started guide on the Project Loom getting page: https://wiki.openjdk.java.net/display/loom/Getting+started
